Welcome to Port Solace, chartered 1851

A harbour city where
the lights never go out.

It is autumn, 1936, and the city is dressed up for Harbour Days. Catch a picture at the Paragon, order pie at the Starlite, watch the board flip at Union Terminal, then ride the streetcar down to the boardwalk as the neon comes on.

And the whole place is alive. Crowds on the sidewalks, 162 residents with names and something to say, cabs at the kerb and a streetcar that keeps its timetable.

A city full
of people.

Hundreds of people walk the sidewalks, wait at the lights and window-shop on Grand Avenue. Clerks work the counters, couples dance in the Grand Solace ballroom and the diner fills up at lunch.

Pigeons scatter when you walk up, gulls wheel over the harbour and the flags snap in the wind off the water.
